Ever sailed in the dark?

We're partnering up with Lakeside Sailing Club to spend 24 hours out on the water, in a bid to raise money for the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). The Club will be bringing a 24-hour race to Gunwade Lake, here at the Lakeside area of Ferry Meadows. The event kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 1 July and will run until the winners cross the line at 3pm on Sunday 2 July.

RNLI race

Lakeside Sailing Club, who usually meet at Lakeside on a Saturday morning, says the emphasis is on having fun racing through the night on the water with full rescue, safety and other facilities. The racing is serious but sociable and much satisfaction also comes from helping the very best of good causes!

We are looking for teams to take part in the race and raise sponsorship money towards the cause. Any donations, big or small, will be very gratefully received, as well as any donations on the day from supporters.

Sailors are welcome, as well as windsurfers, canoes and more. Nene Park Trust has even pulled a staff team together to head out on a swan pedalo for the day! If you are interested in taking part, please email neneoutdoors@neneparktrust.org.uk

If you are planning on visiting the Park over that weekend, please come down to the shorelines on Gunwade Lake and show your support for those entering.

The RNLI is a charity that saves lives at sea. Every day of every year, they see people of all backgrounds get into danger in the water. They are independent of the Government and rely on volunteers and supporters to run their service. The charity also works with partners and the community to educate, influence and rescue those at risk of drowning. All proceeds raised from this event at Ferry Meadows will go to the charity to support their fantastic work.
