Shaping the future Nene Park

Nene Park Trust is shaping the future of the Park for the next thirty years. What would you like to see in your Park in the future?

Peterborough's population is rapidly expanding and the number of Park visitors is increasing every year. To ensure that the Park can meet this future demand, as well protecting the landscape and wildlife, we are producing a new Park Master Plan. The Master Plan will include the new facilities which will be needed, along with new structures and landscape features. Many features of the Park, such as bridges, paths and buildings are requiring critical repair and improvement in order to provide for the current and future increases in visitor numbers.

The Untold Story project has looked back at the Park's history to help shape its future. This Heritage Lottery Funded project has been inspiring, giving current Trust staff the opportunity to hear the vision of the Park's creators from the 1970's. Their vision to create a park for the people of Peterborough in the natural landscape of the Nene River Valley is still just as valid today. We now also need to consider issues such as climate change, flood water management and loss of wildlife species and habitats.

Shaping Nene Park

The Trust recognises what an important job it is to plan the Park for the next thirty years, so SLR Consulting have been assisting the Trust. They have an excellent record of carrying out similar work at other locations. Combining their experience with the local knowledge of Board Trustees and staff has stimulated much discussion and many ideas.

Sessions have been held with tenants, local organisations and volunteers to gain their comments and ideas on the now completed plan. Following the completion, the Trust is about to enter into a brand new period of expansion, with lots of excting plans to reveal. For more information please visit www.neneparktrust.org.uk.
