Every windy day has a silver lining

He's done it again! Four years ago, we were thrilled when Nick Dempsey won silver in the London Olympics, after bagging a bronze medal in 2004. It's now 2016 and Nick has become the first male windsurfer to win three Olympic medals, with the third being another silver in Rio this year.

Why are we so thrilled? Back in the mid 1990's, Nick, who is now 36, regularly took to the waters on our very own Gunwade Lake at Ferry Meadows to practice his windsurfing. Those dedicated hours on the water have certainly paid off! He now travels worldwide with the sport and has some incredible achievements under his belt.

Then and now

His career has proved to be inspirational for the locals who have come down to the Nene Outdoors Watersports Centre to try their hand at windsurfing. The 75-acre lake is the perfect size for all abilities including beginners, with dedicated instructors on hand to show you the ropes. We're sure there are plenty of other budding windsurfers just like Nick out there!
