Fledgling Support

Rare Fledglings set to arrive at Nene Park thanks to Mick George Ltd

Nene Park has received a major cash injection from local business Mick George Ltd to support its 'Meadows and Martins' initiative. The funds provided by Mick George Community Fund will be utilised on two separate but connected wildlife improvements.

In 2014 a trial was carried out whereby 36 chambers were installed, resulting in 60 fledglings on site, the first in over 30 years. The aim is to double the number of chambers, whilst installing live footage to the Visitor Centre to educate visitors and allow conservation monitoring. In addition, due to the increased scale of the wildlife meadows, specialist equipment is required to maintain the grassland area.

It is anticipated that the changes will increase the sighting and breeding of rare Sand Martins, as well as wider species diversification of invertebrates, birds and mammals.

Jon Stump, Finance Director of Mick George Ltd commented: ''Nene Park has a rich heritage in the local region, one which we're pleased to be involved in, with a view to preserving. The south of the Peterborough is under going major developments, which will subsequently attract a larger and new population to the City, for which attractions such as Nene Park will be a vital factor.''
Stump continued: ''The Charity should be congratulated on its pro-activity to enhance the facilities in a strategic manner with the local community as the main focal-point. Given that the park is self-funded, it relies on support from like minded businesses like ourselves which we're always keen to support.''
