Roman Point Hedge

 Roman Point Hedge

The hedge which ran along the path from the Visitor Centre towards Roman Point in Ferry Meadows was in poor condition. The elm trees were suffering from Dutch Elm disease and over grazing by rabbits excluded scrub species other than Elder from establishing.

The decision was therefore taken to remove it. As a temporary measure, before we replant the area with trees, Buglife the Insect Charity has sown a cornfield annual wildflower mix.

The flowers that are growing include:Corn camomile, Corn marigold, Corn flower and Charlock. Nettles are also thriving but as they provide essential habitat for insects, especially butterflies, they will be left.
