Lakeside family fun day to celebrate opening of new facility (4)

Following the successful opening of Lakeside @ Ferry Meadows the centre is showcasing the new facilities and activities in its first Family Fun Day on Saturday 10 May from 11am - 4pm.

It will be a particularly special day for Lakeside as Rutland Cycling will be joining the event to give visitors a taster of what will be offered at Ferry Meadows when it opens its newest cycle hire facility from 24 May.

Lakeside provides a hub for activity and relaxation within Ferry Meadows as the home for Nene Outdoors, a new watersports and outdoor activity venture, Lakeside Kitchen & Bar, a contemporary dining and function venure at the Park as well as Rutland Cycling.

On 10 May there will be opportunities to watch and take part in various activities whatever your experience and ability with £5 per person taster sessions being held by Nene Outdoors on a range of water based activities and special guided boat trips around the lake.

Lakeside Kitchen & Bar will be providing family friendly offers and entertainment with face painting for children between 12 noon and 2pm and live music with local band The Collaborators' from 12:30.

David Middlemiss, Managing Director at Rutland Cycling said "The whole team at Rutland is excited and pleased to be launching bike hire at Ferry Meadows. Delivering excellent service to all types of cyclists is something we pride ourselves on, and we're extremely happy to be starting a new venture at such a high quality destination as the new Lakeside centre. Ferry Meadows is an excellent place to take the family for a short ride, or to start a longer journey on the fascinating local routes, and, with our fleet of bikes, visitors will be able to do just that from this summer onwards."

As well as introducing new faces and facilities the complex is also home to long-standing Park friends many of whom will be involved in the event; Lakeside Sailing Club, Peterborough Sailability, Nene Bowmen, Peterborough Adapted Cycling Scheme operated by Vivacity and, more recent addition to the complex, Packers Canoe Club. These groups are working closely with the new businesses to provide a variety of leisure opportunities for all abilities and backgrounds.

Teresa Wood, Visitor Services Manager at Nene Park Trust said "We are delighted to welcome Rutland Cycling to Ferry Meadows and believe that this new cycle hire business will complement the water based and outdoor activities already on offer at Lakeside."
