Dogs in Nene Park

Thank you to all the dog and none-dog walkers who kindly completed a 'Dog Behaviour Survey' during the latter half of March and early April following a very successful awareness event in Ferry Meadows on 19 March.  Over 100 forms were completed and returned from both dog and none-dog walkers, of these 75% were from dog walkers.

From the information gathered we now know that 35% of dog walkers surveyed visit the Park daily and, in some cases, twice daily and that the most popular time for walking dogs is between 8 and 10am.  In the main respondents felt that, apart from some isolated incidents and some central areas, dogs weren't a particular problem.

Both dog and none-dog owners alike felt that there was a need for some areas of the park to be 'dogs on lead' zones; these were primarily around cafes, play areas, near wildlife and in the car parks.

Awareness of the current Park Code was relatively low with only 40% of respondents being aware of the Code.  However, support for a Park Code was high with 88% of respondents selecting 'Always clean up after your dog and use the bins provided or take your waste home' as their top priority for a new Park Code.

Respondents also gave suggestions on where to locate new bins, providing dog training and requested a Dog Show amongst other ideas.  Analysis of the surveys will be collated into a report, with recommendations based on the survey results, which will be presented to the Senior Management Team for their approval in early July.
