Terns Return to Ferry Meadows

Common Terns are once again breeding in Ferry Meadows. These birds last nested in the 1970's when the gravel extraction was taking place in Ferry Meadows and there were lots of bare sandy islands.

As the Park matured the islands became overgrown with shrubs and common terns ceased nesting.

One of the aims of Nene Park Trust's five year plan is to improve habitats and species diversity of Ferry Meadows. As part of this work, two floating islands were launched earlier this year onto Overton Lake.

The terns took an instant liking to the islands and are now nesting again in the Park.
