Rutland Cycling Hire Centre and Cycling Superstore

Offering a cycle hire service over the summer weekends and school holidays tailored to meet the requirements of the local area whilst giving the same friendly service that can be found at all of their centers.

Cycling

Ferry Meadows and the wider Nene Park offer many miles of off-road traffic-free cycling, including a stretch of the National Cycle Network Route 63.

A map is available from the Visitor Centre for £1.50 which shows the full network of cycle ways which make up the Peterborough Green Wheel.

There are two way marked cycle trails in Nene Park.

The Family Trail
Follow the blue markers on this 4mile / 6.4km  circular trail through Ferry Meadows starting at the Lakeside Centre.

Waymark Arrows

The Boathouse Trail
Follow the blue and then red markers on this 7.5mile / 12km circular trail which includes all the Family Trail and and extra section out to Thorpe Meadows.

Peterborough Adapted Cycling Scheme

The scheme uses a range of specially adapted bikes to enable people of all ages with mobility difficulties to get into cycling.

Discovery Packs

Want to learn more about the wildlife of Ferry Meadows?  Children's Discover Nature Packs are available to borrow free of charge from the Visitor Centre.  Please note: while there is no cost to borrow Discovery Packs, you will be asked to leave a £10 deposit.  This will be fully refunded when the Pack is returned to the Visitor Centre.

Walking

Most of the paths in the central area of Ferry Meadows and at Orton Mere, Woodston Reach and Thorpe Meadows are surfaced and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

On the Rural Estate, most paths are un-surfaced countryside footpaths with stiles; their condition can vary according to the seasons and weather.

The Visitor Centre also stocks handy pocket sized OS maps which show Ferry Meadows, Nene Park and the surrounding area. Perfect for those who wish to explore further afield. The maps are water-resistant and are priced at £2.99.

Explore the Park's and Peterborough's Roman past by picking up an "Explore Roman Peterborough" guided walk pamphlet from the Visitor Centre. The guides cost £1 and contain three walking trails and a wealth of information.

Horse Riding

There are horse routes throughout Nene Park which are marked on posts with blue horse shoe signs.

The boxing point is at Ferry Meadows where a height barrier is in operation. Please see the information on height barriers by following the link below.

Mobility Scooters Loan

Battery powered mobility scooters are available for visitors with limited mobility for use in Ferry Meadows. There is no charge for these but to ensure availability please pre-book by calling 01733 234193.

Geocaching

Orienteering

Orienteering is a great way to explore Ferry Meadows. It is suitable for groups or families. You can run, jog or walk and it doesn't matter how young, old or fit you are. Pick up the leaflets at the Visitor Centre or download them below.

Play Areas

Ferry Meadows contains three play areas. One is located near to the Lakeside centre, another is located by Overton Lake and the Otter Playground, for younger children, is next to Ferry Meadows Cafe by the Visitor Centre.
