2020 Strategic Plan
In 2009, Nene Park Trust launched 2020, a new ten year vision to enhance Nene Park, in 2010. The Trust's overall vision within the 2020 strategy is that:
Nene Park will be an even more exciting, special and welcoming place in Peterborough for visitors and wildlife in a wonderful natural environment.
To achieve this, the Trust is now focusing on four key aims:
- Landscape
Nene Park will be managed and protected as a clean, safe, sustainable and attractive natural environment that retains its river valley character and celebrates its heritage, archaeology and biodiversity. - Community
Nene Park will be a beautiful, accessible and enjoyable place that provides exciting opportunities for healthy relaxation and learning for the community. - Recreation
Nene Park will be a place that people regularly choose to visit for the beauty of its natural landscape, the quality of its facilities and its exciting range of activities. - Promotion
Nene Park will be known throughout Peterborough and beyond as a great park and visitor destination, and for providing information that is high quality, innovative and accessible.
The strategy makes it clear that maintaining the special and unique character of the park landscape is the Trust's primary aim. However, it also sets out an ambition to raise the quality of Nene Park and its facilities, and improve participation and engagement by visitors, to provide a country park that is amongst in the best in the UK.
Work is already well underway on achieving this ambition through improvement and development of park facilities, the launch of new education and volunteering programmes and approval for plans to create one of the most exciting natural play spaces in the country.
